On board the GoldenPass train, travellers discover how cheese is made in Château-d'Oex and the history of the village's iconic hot air balloons.
Departing from the Montreux or Zweisimmen train station, the GoldenPass-MOB takes passengers to Château-d'Oex in the Vaud Alps. The train first passes through vineyards, then quickly rises to reveal a spectacular panorama of Lake Geneva, before opening up into a landscape typical of the Swiss Pre-Alps. At their destination, the passengers go to the restaurant Le Chalet, to attend a demonstration of artisanal cheese making over a wood fire. Dressed in traditional costume, the cheese maker transforms some 400 liters of organic milk into hard cheese. A fondue is then offered in this rustic setting and a "souvenir bag" is offered to all. Fans of small trains can go upstairs to discover the model of the GoldenPass-MOB. The program continues a few steps away from the restaurant at the Espace Ballon, where an educational tour allows visitors to discover the history of hot air balloons and the great exploits of balloonists such as Brian Jones and Bertrand Piccard. Starting from Château-d'Oex, they were the first to fly non-stop around the world. The return to Montreux is scheduled for late afternoon.
The Cheese Train runs from February 4 to June 29 and from September 2 to November 13, 2022, every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Departures from Montreux at 8:50, 9:50 or 10:50. From CHF 65.00/person. Reservation required.
