Every year since 2003, during the first weekend of September, a special homage is paid to the tremendous star, Freddie Mercury, singer icon of the British pop group, Queen, who was a great admirer of the city of Montreux, and died in 1991.
Organised by the Montreux Celebration association, the "Freddie Celebration Days" offers mostly concerts and workshops involving people who were close to Freddie Mercury. The success of the event is growing from year to year.
For the several hundred people, who come from the four corners of the world to meet and share their emotions, there could be no more symbolic or essential focal point than the statue of their idol, which perhaps calls to mind something Freddy Mercury often used to say: "If you want peace of mind, come to Montreux".
