For laughter and poetry, head to the Street Artists Festival in the old town of Vevey on Lake Geneva. This free festival is the fun family event of the end of the summer holidays. The festival prize, the “Pavé d'or”, is awarded every year to Swiss and international performers.
During the three-day Street Artists Festival, around thirty different troupes perform almost 200 free shows. The old town of Vevey is transformed into a vast performing tent where jugglers and acrobats, contortionists, fire eaters, mime artists and performers from all over the world perform their acts to the delight of children and adults alike. A jury, made up of people from the show and local figures, awards the “Pavé d'or” prize at the end of the competitions.
The audience is also encouraged to vote on which act should be awarded the “People’s Prize”. On the Sunday, larger scale street events are performed on Scanavin square and in neighbouring streets. This festival has become the event marking the end of the school holidays, enjoyed by both children and adults, in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
