La Sarraz, in the Middle of the World
The mediaeval town of La Sarraz is known for its castle and natural attractions like the Milieu du Monde and the Tine de Conflens.
Perched on a rocky outcrop, the little town of La Sarraz is in the district of Morges, nestled between Lakes Geneva, Joux and Neuchâtel, facing the Alps.
It is situated at a fork in the river Nozon, some of its waters running to the North Sea and some to the Mediterranean. This point is called the “Milieu du Monde”. One of the two rivers carrying the water of the Nozon, the Venoge, was celebrated in a poem by Jean Villars-Gilles which locals know by heart. A few kilometres further on, the Venoge joins the Veyron at Tine de Conflens. This impressive natural waterfall with its magnificent circle of rock is a popular destination point and place to swim for walkers.
The tastefully refurbished mediaeval castle is the ideal venue for parties and weddings. Here, equestrian enthusiasts opened the Horse Museum with a collection tracing the history of horses used for work, military, sporting or artistic purposes.
