Lutry, celebrating wine
There’s a holiday air in the mediaeval town of Lutry with its lively lakeshore and UNESCO-listed Lavaux wines to enjoy!
Lutry has the typical outline of a mediaeval town standing out against the Lavaux vineyard terraces, a UNESCO world heritage site.
A few minutes from Lausanne and Vevey by car, train, boat or bike, Lutry is a popular wine tourism destination for city dwellers and holiday-makers.
Lutry’s south and south-west facing vineyards are blessed with a double dose of sunshine, coming from the sky and reflected off the 130 hectare lake. Its chasselas white wines are cultivated in the well-known vineyards of Bannerettes, Bolliattaz, Château de Montagny and Domaine du Daley. Visitors can take the Lavaux Express tourist train on wheels for a one-hour tour with commentary describing the vines and villages of Lavaux.
As host to the region’s unique grape harvest festival, Lutry welcomes 20,000 people for three days of festivities at the end of September. The highlight of the event, residents and tourists, families and groups come together for the Sunday procession.
