Accessible for the whole family and all fitness levels, via ferrata is a trendy mountain sport. The principle: perform an ascent via a secure route fully equipped with cables, ladders, footbridges, zip lines, etc. that makes the climbing progress easier and more fun.
Via ferrata, a highly appreciated tourist activity, has spread rapidly in the Swiss mountains and in the canton of Vaud, where there are about a dozen climbs. Beginners prefer the routes in Rougemont and Leysin in the Vaudois Alps, where there are also some via ferrata for strong-armed climbers. In Les Diablerets and Rochers-de-Naye above Montreux, breathtaking panoramas reward the efforts of advanced climbers.
Via ferrata is practised in the warm season and requires light equipment, which is on sale or hire in the sports shops near the climbing routes.
