Its tranquil atmosphere and mild climate lends this historic medieval town in the heart of Switzerland a Mediterranean feeling.
Whether you stop off in one of the cafés or stroll along the lake, Murten will not leave you jaded.
The town of Murten was founded by the Zähringen family. In 1476, Charles the Bold set up his headquarters here before suffering a crushing defeat. The battle is well documented in the town's history museum. The town's outer walls and decorated arcades are good reasons to go for a stroll. Lake Murten is great for water sports and cruises. Many restaurants boast terraces with a view on to the lake and Mount Vully.
