The Lavaux-Payerne Must Trail celebrates the grape harvest and showcases wines from the renowned vineyards of Vaud. Autumn fair and other animations are not to be missed!
Every first weekend of October horse-drawn wagons make their way from the vineyards of Lavaux to Payerne, bearing a precious liquid cargo, the first pressings of the freshly harvested grapes.
Driven by Daniel Jomini since 1996, this cavalcade follows the route taken by drivers and their steeds in days of old. Over the course of the two-day journey, the wagons will stop off at villages along the way, giving locals an opportunity to sample the produce of Payerne’s vineyards.
Many festivities are organised throughout the day on Saturday in the Market Square (around the Abbey Church). From 9am to 6pm there is an autumn market with local flavours. Musical entertainment, donkey rides, an exhibition of small animals and a pumpkin cutting and decorating workshop are on the program.
Catering is provided by the Lion's Club.
