At the Eastern end of Lake Geneva, Villeneuve is a historical, restful town with a history of over 800 years, including several grand houses, churches and shops that visitors should take time out to see. Its lakeshore offers an idyllic view of the Ile de Peilz and the local wines are definitely worth a detour.
On the edge of the Rhone delta, the popular Les Grangettes nature reserve protects the unspoilt shores of Lake Geneva, with its wetlands, reed beds and ponds. Les Grangettes has around 260 species of birds and migrating birds to see and is a favourite weekend destination for walkers, cyclists and roller bladers.
Walkers can also enjoy a more unusual two-hour walk taking in vineyard trails, the Paleolithic cave of Le Scex, two chestnut groves and a small chapel with a breathtaking view of Villeneuve.
Villeneuve’s cultural life includes a flea market every other Saturday and a theatre with an eclectic programme of events.
