Blessed with a beautifully mild climate, Bex’s south-facing vineyards produce mainly chasselas, gamay and pinot noir grapes.
The discovery of a salt spring in the 15th century led to the mining of Bex salt, still used in many Swiss kitchens. The Salt Mines tell the story of salt and its mining techniques in the public section of the 50 km of tunnels.
In the Pont de Nant alpine pasture (1,260 m), the Thomas family founded the La Thomasia alpine garden in 1891. Set against the spectacular mountain of Grand Muveran, the gardens include a collection of rare and delicate plants. In addition to raising awareness of alpine flora with schools and the public, La Thomasia is a popular nature destination.
Grand Muveran (3,051 m) offers dozens of marked footpaths through beautiful alpine scenery, some with rest stops at mountain huts.
